2014 awards volunteer Kevin Proude

Page history last edited by PEI RoadRunners Club 8 years, 10 months ago

Kevin Proude is the co-owner of Proude’s shoes in Charlottetown, and is well deserving of this award. Over the last few years He has supported the Gold Cup Trot and in recent years taken over as race director of this fast and furious race. It’s a tough one to organize due to large crowds on parade day; the start time has to be exact, and he and his Dad, Wayne, must make sure all runners get through the crowd to the finish line. Kevin handles this with ease. Not to mention the many prizes he provides from the business for all who enter.

Secondly, the Proude’s shoes 5K has been organized by Kevin for the last 8 years plus and he was awarded points status for this race after it’s third year- well done. Again, Kevin provides a safe and well marked course which is accurately timed and provides runners to reach a PB. He is always relaxed and makes runners feel comfortable no matter what time they finish. He is a truly devoted race director.

Kevin’s store also sponsors the “Most Improved Runner” award, and it is fitting because Kevin has always said that the true runner is the one who has to give the most to cross that finish line and to keep going even when he or she is not as fast as the front runners in a race. He admires all runners and thinks highly of anyone who completes a race.

Finally, the list doesn’t end there!! Proude’s shoes sponsors the Roadrunner website; the store gives discounts to runners; and fits runners with the right shoes. Kevin attends the AGM faithfully every year, and in general supports everything within the club.

Knowing Kevin on a personal level for many years, it is easy to see why he is such a support to others in his community. His wife Cindy and their three children, Tyler, Emily, and Josh are one of the most wonderful families I have ever known. They are truly genuine and are humble about their devotion, their time given to volunteer, and their encouragement and support to those around them. I am extremely pleased to present the Volunteer of the Year award to Kevin Proude!!
