2014 awards Ronda Bellefontaine

Page history last edited by PEI RoadRunners Club 8 years, 9 months ago

Congratulations to Ronda Bellefontaine, our winner of the 2014 Most improved Runner of the year! Ronda starting running in 2007. She completed many 5ks, 10ks, half marathons and to date 3 full marathons.

Ronda’s accomplishments don’t end there. Ronda and her friend Lynn Ann Hogan brought the ‘Learn to Run’ program to Kensington. Ronda's passion for running and for people was infectious. She always gave 100% and she did whatever she could to encourage others to start and to stick with it.  Ronda is responsible for hundreds of women and men taking the first step of walking 3min and running 30sec.  As most of you know, the ‘Island Girls’ were formed from participants from these groups. Ronda would be the first to tell you that running provides so much more than just a way to be physically active.

But in 2014 she decided to take things to a whole new level. She completed bootcamp classes and encompassed biweekly circuit classes into her already hectic work and marathon training schedule. The results were phenomenal!
Ronda was able to achieve new PB's in almost EVERY race she competed in, AND she crushed previous times in her longer distance runs.

Her first full Marathon time was 5:24 in 2011 and in 2014 she achieved a 5:04!
Her 2013 Harvest Festival time was 3:06 and in 2014 she crushed it with a 2:46!
In true Ronda spirit, she decided to add something "new" to her training for 2014. She decided to take on the daunting task of running the Broovale 25k trail run. She trained hard and was able to cross the finish line feeling fantastic at 3:42. Not only did she finish the trail run, feeling great BUT the very NEXT day she went on to run in the Fredericton Beer Run! Ronda was able to achieve new PB's in almost EVERY race she competed in, AND she crushed previous times in the longer distance runs.  And that's especially difficult when you consider that she owns her own business, a farm, is a mom, a wife and attends all ‘Island Girl’ adventures (and there are a lot according to her group!).

Rhonda deserves Most Improved Road Runner for her dedication to beating personal bests and for inspiring so many runners to not give up and make it to that finish line. Some may worry that your running may decline with age but Ronda is a true testament that with hard work and dedication you can actually IMPROVE! Can't wait to see what 2015 holds for you Ronda!! All the best from us and Proude’s Shoes!
