You all inspire me but this guy was an excellent candidate for this award even before the PEI Marathon happened!

Dennis Gallant is a talented and dedicated runner. He and his family are often seen at the PEI Roadrunner events smiling and ready to race.

The majority of his 2016 season was a great year for Dennis with very strong showings in several races including:

  • ·       3rd Place at Farmers Helping Farmers 10 Miler
  • ·       5th Place at the Friendship Run and the Desmond Baglole Scenic Road Run
  • ·       6th Place at the Kensington Harvest Festival 25K
  • ·       7th Place at the Cox & Palmer 10K
  • ·       11th at the Deltaware 5K
  • ·

Where Dennis really showed what he is made of was at the PEI Marathon. What he did was truly inspiration and illustrated a dedication to the sport of running that is not often seen.

Dennis started the marathon very strong and finished the half with a split of 1:28:50. Then, a leg injury dropped him to the ground not long after. He had to give up on his time goal for the race, but he refused to stop. Dennis walked in the last 11 or 12K, cheering & encouraging fellow runners along the way. That 2.5 hr walk must have been both physically painful and emotionally difficult for this great runner, but his finish was an inspiration.  He finished in 4:51:52, 24th in his very competitive division. The following day he was diagnosed with a broken leg!

Dennis was laid up for a good part of the winter. After the race and the diagnosis was made, his son was noted as saying "Oh great, now we are going to be his slaves!" They must have been great slaves because he is out there once again in 2017

Congratulations Dennis, well deserved!
