The RoadRunners Club is pleased to present the 2009 Proude’s Shoes “Most Improved” RoadRunner  to Mike Murrins.

This award looks for consistent improvements over the past three race seasons, and Mike has certainly demonstrated improvement over that time.  When comparing the 2007 season to the 2009 season, Mike has improved at all distances.

Mike’s 5K times have improved from a 25:07 in 2008, to a 22:16 in 2009 in the Proude’s Shoes 5K run.  Mike has also taken about 4 minutes off his 10K times. In the PEI Parks 10K, he dropped from 52:18 in 2008, to 48:00 in 2009.

Mike concentrated more on his long distance runs, and had some impressive improvements.  Mike improved his time by 10 minutes in the 15K Desmond Baglole run, and by 12 minutes in the Harvest Festival 25K. But most dramatically, Mike improved his Marathon time by 45 minutes, finishing the PEI Marathon in a time of 3:46:27, and just missed qualifying for Boston by 28 seconds!

If you have followed Mike’s running over the last couple of years, you didn’t need a stop watch to chart his improvement. You could see the improvement in both his dedication and his physique.  Mike has worked himself into a lean, mean running machine!  It is not uncommon to see Mike out pounding the roads 5 or 6 days a week.

Mike, it gives us great pleasure to acknowledge your hard work, and dedication, and award you the Proude’s Shoes Most Improved RoadRunner award.   But Mike, we would like to say … take a break, you are making the rest of us look bad!

Congratulations Mike!
