The PEI RoadRunners Club is please to present Bev Walsh with the 2008 Good Guys Auto Glass Female RoadRunner of the Year Award.

Training, racing and improvement:

Bev is a fixture on the running scene in PEI.  She participated in at least 14 Island runs in 2008, never finishing lower than 4th place. Bev won the 2008 running of the tough Freeze Your Gizzard in Montague.  She also had second place finishes in the St. Patrick’s Day run, the Mount Edward Grocery 5 miler, and the Banks Financial 5K.  Bev also had five – third place finishes.  She also had an impressive 3:36:27 in the PEI Marathon.

Off Island … Bev had a 3:46 in the Boston Marathon and a 3:48 in the Bluenose Marathon. Bev ran the Johnny Miles Marathon in a time of 3:42, and she finished 22nd overall in the Marathon-by-the-Sea in a time of 3:41.  In addition, she finished 47th out of 513 runners in the Legs for Literacy Half-Marathon in Moncton in a time of 1:42.  We think Bev has reached the milestone of 25 Marathons.

Assistance with Club Activities:

Bev is a regular in both the Saturday morning hotel, and the Sunday morning Spa running groups … often sending out the weekly reminders that rally the troops for the Sunday runs.

Interest in Running and Helping Beginners:

Bev has spread her love of running to many, including her husband Donnie, and her sister Cathy.

Always gives her Best:

Bev is also a fierce competitor, but not necessarily against other runners, but more so challenging herself to do the best she can.  She doesn’t shrink from a challenge, and has tackled some pretty tough runs, including a 7.6 mile climb of Mt. Washington, New Hampshire.  This run has an average grade of 11.5%, with extended sections at 18% grade, and a 50 yd section know as “the wall” at the very end of the climb that is a 22% grade.

It gives us great pleasure to present Bev Walsh with the 2008 Good Guys Auto Glass Female RoadRunner of the Year Award.

Congratulations Bev!
